About Dr Knopman

Dr Alex Knopman is a Sydney based Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist in private practice, clinical research and the public hospital system. He has 15 years of experience with neuropsychological assessment, memory training and cognitive remediation in adults/adolescents suffering from a range of disorders of cognition. These include those related to mental illness, dementia, head injury, stroke, learning disability, ADHD, epilepsy, drug/alcohol use, and general neurological, neurosurgical and medical conditions. Dr Knopman’s specialties include adult and adolescent neuropsychological assessment, the provision of treatment recommendations and management advice, memory training, healthy brain ageing, clinical research and clinical supervision/training.

Dr Knopman maintains a special interest in the assessment of cognitive capacity within clinical and medico-legal contexts. He is experienced in the provision of an expert opinion pertaining to testamentary capacity, capacity to appoint/revoke an Enduring Power of Attorney/Enduring Guardian, capacity to consent to medical treatment, capacity to consent to lifestyle matters (such as living arrangements and services) and financial management orders. Dr Knopman provides assessments for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance claims (where these relate to loss of cognitive function) and fitness to return to work.

Dr Knopman operates his own private practice in Bondi Junction. He also holds appointments at KaRa Institute of Neurological Diseases (where he is involved with Alzheimer’s Disease clinical trials) and at War Memorial Hospital, Waverley (a geriatric rehabilitation hospital). He has previously held positions at Westmead Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney.


Adult and adolescent neuropsychological assessment

A detailed report is provided to both patients and referrers for each assessment, including results, individually tailed recommendations, plus a feedback session and telephone follow-up if required.

Dr Knopman is able to offer prompt assessment (typically within 3 weeks) and prompt report turnaround (typically within 7 working days). Please enquire about priority assessment options.

Pricing depends on the complexity of each case. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment typically takes all morning or afternoon. Brief cognitive assessment/screening takes 1 hour. Referral from a doctor or specialist is not necessary but can be very helpful.
