About Dr Knopman

Dr Alex Knopman is a Sydney based Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist working in private practice, clinical research and the public hospital system. He has 17 years of experience with neuropsychological assessment and cognitive remediation in adults suffering from a range of disorders of cognition. These include those attributable to mental illness, dementia, head injury, stroke, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, epilepsy, drug and alcohol abuse, general neurological, general neurosurgical and general medical conditions. Dr Knopmanā€™s specialties include adult and adolescent neuropsychological assessment, the provision of treatment recommendations and management advice, memory training, healthy brain ageing, clinical research and clinical supervision/training.

Dr Knopman is confident providing an expert opinion/report regarding Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) and Income Protection insurance claims (if related to cognitive decline), Fitness for Duty, and cognitive capacity within both clinical and medico-legal settings (e.g., testamentary capacity, capacity to appoint or revoke a guardian or POA, capacity to manage finances etc.). Dr Knopman has completed training in the Assessment of Permanent Impairment with the Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) and WorkCover (now iCare and SIRA). He has been appointed as an Expert Reviewer for the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) and provides assessments for AHPRA and the Medical Council of NSW.

Dr Knopman operates his own private practice in Bondi Junction. He also holds appointments at KaRa Institute of Neurological Diseases (where he is involved with dementia clinical trials) and at War Memorial Hospital, Waverley (a geriatric rehabilitation hospital). He has previously held positions at Westmead Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney. Dr Knopman is able to see patients on an NDIS plan.

A detailed report is provided to both patients and referrers for each assessment, including results, individually tailed recommendations, plus a feedback session and telephone follow-up if required.

Dr Knopman is able to offer prompt assessment (typically within 3 weeks) and prompt report turnaround (typically within 7 working days). Please enquire about priority assessment options.

Pricing depends on the complexity of each case. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment typically takes all morning or afternoon. Brief cognitive assessment/screening takes 1 hour. Referral from a doctor or specialist is not necessary but can be very helpful.
